Commander's Message:

The Day’s Pay Squadron’s showing at Radials and Rivers last weekend was a great success! Hangar 180 and Hillcrest Aviation set us up just inside the hangar door next to a giant fan, which was great, and we had the catbird seat to listen to Gary Peters interview Gen. Bud Anderson and Gen. Jimmy Doolittles granddaughter.  They really went out of their way to help us out, put us into a great location to maximize our exposure, and were checking in on us all weekend to make sure we were getting all the help we needed. It paid off, we sold tons of shirts and patches, one of the signs, and about 10 lights. On top of that we met two CAF members from other units, and we got to meet Danielle and Jackson who are members up in Spokane but hadn’t been able to meet up in person until then.

Special thanks to George Stanley for hauling jeeps over and supporting our efforts, Kevin and Glenn for manning the table all day long, George Abatt and Herb for helping out throughout the weekend, and Bill for hauling the bomb over and working the crowd all day to send people to our table.

This Thursday evening from 1800 to 2000 we will have shirts and patches out to sell to the membership at our hangar. They are $30 and there are two styles, white or olive green. Patches are very cool and $15 each. Once we go through this first round with the members Scott and I will plan on making another order to get filled back up on the popular sizes. We also have some decorations to hang if your inclined to help that evening.

Glenn went up to Wenatchee for their fly-in yesterday and made some contacts that told him they would be interested in having us there next year, so that’s great work by Glenn on spreading the word. We also have the Joseph fly-in to consider.

We are working on getting setup for a table at the Airshow of the Cascades in Madras on 8.25-26. We aren’t confirmed yet, but I will let everyone know if we do, and when we are confirmed, we will be looking for some volunteers to help!

A little more on our visit a few weeks ago to Moses Lake Airshow.
Darrin Jackson, who is the Commissioner of the Port of Moses Lake AND a Day’s Pay Squadron member sent us the following message that I want to make sure you all see:

I would just like to thank all of the squadron members that participated in the Grant County airshow on Father’s Day weekend. This event sets new records every year and this year was no exception with over 20,000 people in attendance. Thank you again for braving the high winds and I hope to see you all again next year to make it even better.

Darrin Jackson

and squadron member

Thank you again!!!!!!

Blue skies in tail winds forever!!!!!

For unit business updates
Glenn has set up a spot on the webpage where members can pay your dues online now, so please if you need to take care of that do so. He also has a spot setup so that a lifetime membership can be paid for online, but to get to that you need me or Glenn to send you a link (so let me know, email [email protected]), and once the plane gets here that offer will dry up until we need another major fundraiser! Additionally, we are currently looking for someone to take over from Mark as Finance Officer and are on the hunt again for a safety officer. We appreciate Mark and Jon both fulfilling the duties of the roles, and they have both asked for relief from the positions due to other commitments. They are both very important officer roles, if you have a desire to lend a hand these positions are a great way to do it!

Lastly, there IS NO 3rd SATURDAY BREAKFAST this Saturday at Richland. Scott and Bill who normally host for the Aggressors are both out of town, and I’m off to JBLM for the airshow to see the Thunderbirds. If you’re going to be there let me know and we can try to tie up!

Thanks – Robert Wade

PT-23 News Update

PT-23 Annual

In January the Maintenance crew got the PT-23 into annual, completed necessary repairs/squawks.  Special thanks to Herb Brayton for allowing us to use his hangar to do the work and to Josh Hissam for being the IA overseeing the work.  Chief Pilot George Abatt was able to test run and fly the post annual flight on March 10th and has since taken the plane out on other time testing the adjustments to the radios.  Thanks to all of those that assisted in getting the plane serviced for this upcoming year of flying.
