Day's Pay News and Updates:

This weekend August 17th is the 3rd Saturday, if we want to have a breakfast get together, we will need a few volunteers. Let Robert know if you can help please by Thursday evening 1900 hrs. We will need at least two confirmed to help Greg out.

Hal, Scott, Glenn and I got the oil changed on the PT last weekend, so we are ready to be back in the training business.  As the heat of summer breaks, I expect her to be in the air much more often and we will continue to work towards the ride flight mock-ups later in the fall.

On the calendar next is the Airshow of the Cascades in Madras on the 23rd and 24th. There are no concrete plans to take her over currently, but If you are interested in splitting fuel with a pilot to spend the day at the show, let me know and I will see if we can coordinate something. If you can provide ground support let me know and I will contact the organizers to see if they can find us a spot on the line.

On 8/31-9/1 we have the airshow in McMinnville – no plans to take DP2 but the Thunderbirds will be there!

And finally, is sounds like Terry is making great progress with Dusty the Jeep. Last I heard, the carb has been rebuilt, the shattered distributor has been replaced, and he is awaiting some parts to stop a few leaks. Dusty should be back to making appearances pretty soon.

Thanks – Robert Wade

We had a great, active June with Friday lunches, sitting static at KRLD for Young Eagles Day, flying up to the Moses Lake Airshow for Father’s Day Weekend, flying up to Wenatchee for the Pangborn Airport Day the following weekend, visiting Yakima and Hermiston for a couple of EAA pancake breakfasts, and receiving “Dusty” the Jeep from Dallas. Terry Klute has Dusty at his shop and from what I hear he has the carb off and is well on his way to getting him back into fighting shape.

Now that we are fully into the 100+ degree hot season, I expect things to slow a bit. On the calendar we have the Wallowa Fly-in at Joseph as our sole local event, but I’m not expecting the plane to go at this time.

We have two upcoming activities that we need help with:

  • July 20th, 3rd Saturday Breakfast. We need two volunteers to reach out to help Greg out this month – no volunteers, no breakfast! This will potentially be a good day for slinging pancakes, as it’s an Oshkosh travel day; we may get some west siders stopping in on their way, and if we get concrete volunteers lined up then Glenn can advertise for us! Pitch in and help us make a little dough!
  • PT Oil Change! We will need the oil changed and the 25-hour maintenance as soon as our oil order gets delivered, which should be within the next several days. Jeff is away on business until early August, but we will rally the Maintenance Team to get it done before then. Maintenance Team, I’ll let you know when we are ready, if you aren’t on the team but want to help let me know and Jeff or I will let you know what you need to do.
  • We are still moving towards ride flight mock-ups; I’ll keep everyone posted.

So far, we have three pilots checked out, plus me in-progress and Glenn and John Schwarder having taken their first familiarization flights.

Everyone stay safe, stay hydrated, and have a look at a few photos from last month’s activities.

For unit business updates

Have you paid your 2024 Dues yet?  If not we have a spot on the webpage where members can pay your dues online and if you are interested in becoming a lifetime member you can do that as well. you’ll need to email Robert Wade or Glenn Whitcomb to send you the appropriate link.  Additionally, we are currently looking for someone to take over from Mark as Finance Officer and are on the hunt again for a Secretary Officer.  These are both very important officer roles, if you have a desire to lend a hand these positions are a great way to do it!

PT-23 News Update

We are happy to report Day’s Pay II has been in the air more in the last few weeks than it’s been in a very long time.  Operations Officer George Abatt has started check-outs and running our ground school.  Congratulations to Col. Bob Stoney for getting his check-out completed and hopefully soon he can back up George on doing check-outs.
